The Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department began in 1897 and now has [?] members. Some volunteers are third- and fourth-generation FVFD families. Our historic Fire Hall on Brown St. was built in 1910.
We have one rescue truck, three fire engines (pumpers), one water tender, a utility truck, and other equipment. Our district follows the Eel River from just past Price Creek down to the river mouth, then to just south of the Navy base and back to Price Creek, crossing the Wildcat a mile or two upstream.
Members meet every Thursday, always at 7:00 p.m. in the Fire Hall.

Every year, members conduct an annual donation drive beginning in April. The money raised goes towards our training, equipment, and yearly events. The door-to-door method allows us to make personal contact with the families and notice changes in the local areas such as new construction or hazardous conditions. It is our pleasure to answer questions and discuss the Department while we are out in the community. Thank you for your continued support!

Come see us at the annual Ferndale Fourth of July parade! From 10:00am until noon we provide fire truck rides for kids and their families!

Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department collaborates with the Northern California Community Blood Bank, hosting blood drives which have been very well supported by the community. While the donated blood is made available to anyone, the cost to the patient may be reduced if a credit on our account is claimed. If someone from our area requires a blood transfusion, they simply need to notify the hospital that they would like to use the credit under the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department blood account.

The Department also has a Career Day and Fire Prevention programs at the local schools in addition to providing CPR instruction to the community.
